There are many kinds of lawn mower tools and each has its own specific job to perform as far as your garden is concerned.

Before plunging into buying any of these tools, below are three things to consider.

1. Know what specific lawn mower tools you need Only after you have determined which lawn mower tools you need would you be able to address the problem in your garden. On the other hand, if your garden is not a problem, you should be able to find the correct tool in order to maintain it. Examples of lawn mower tools are as follows:

a. Shears – Shears are basically large scissors. Depending on where you need to trim, a different shear is needed to perform specific jobs. Examples of shears may be grass shears, garden shears, single handed grass shears, long-handled edging shears.

b. Rakes – Falling leaves cause your grass to look patchy and thus an eye sore. It is a must that falling leaves are taken out of your lawn to prevent this. Rakes does this work. There are kinds of rakes that would do the effective job. Examples of which, are leaf rake and spring-tine rake.

c. Scarifier – These are tools needed to remove moss and thatch in your lawn. Thatch is the dead, unsightly material you see in grass that causes those patches. They usually build up on the soils surface just beneath the grass blades which when left unattended will make the grass die. Scarifiers may come powered, thus using electricity or a manual push model.

d. Aerator – If kids play in the lawn, the grass becomes compacted making it difficult to survive because it prevents air and rain to penetrate the soil. Using aerators can bring back air into the soil. They can either be powered or manual push.

e. Edger – These tools are used to make your lawn neat and straight. They can either be a half moon edger of an edging iron.

2. Check on the quality and brand Usually, brands carry a distinct quality with them. Always ensure that you buy a reliable brand that would give you the service that you paid for. However, there are inexpensive tools that give you the same quality as those branded tools. Its safer to do some researching.

3. More importantly, the cost. There are lawn mower tools that give you the same quality at less cost. And there are sites that would offer you affordable but quality made tools. With the above guidelines, perhaps you could be able to buy the exact lawn mower tools you need ensuring quality and money worth spent.

There is nothing like the smell of freshly cut grass in the spring. Adding a healthy, deep, green lawn is one of life’s simple pleasures. But cutting the lawn may or may not be a pleasant task. A mower can leave a ragged edge bog down in tall grass or be stubbornly difficult to start. A machine like that removes the pleasure from work and the experience like something you dread. A self propelled lawn mower is a machine which is moved by it’s motors without being pushed.

They can be rear wheel drive or front wheel drive also single speed or variable speed and some even have cruise control. Some of the top rated self propelled lawn mowers also cut more evenly than other types of standard mowers. Some of them start with an electric switch. Another high end feature is a blade override, which stops the blade without cutting the motor. Like all other lawn mowers self propelled mowers also need regular cleaning and maintenance, and about 85 decibels or louder they are noisy enough to require hearing protection. They are also the most expensive lawn mower and the type most apt to need repairs. Safety is also its major concern.

Emissions are other concerns, for both air pollution and global warming. The environmental protection agency estimates that a typical gas mower emits as much air pollution per hours as eleven cars. To minimize the emissions choose an engine that meets the California air research board tier 3 emission standards.

Self propelled gasoline fueled lawn mowers are the most popular type of mower. Some budget models don’t cost much more than a push mower. Lawn mower reviews say self-propelled lawn mowers for hilly yards or lawns up to about half an acre like Honda, Toro and Lawn-Boy insight mowers are most recommended in reviews among self propelled lawn mowers.

The best buy among self propelled lawn mowers depends a lot on how you want to handle the clippings. For bagging and mulching comparison reviews give top ranking to Honda HRX series. Both professional and owner reviews say this system works extremely well. The rust proof deck on the HRX mowers is made of high impact NeXite. This Honda mower series also has a high reputation for performing well on sloping lawns. Honda mowers have cruise control in addition to variable speed up to 4 mph.

Lawn-Boy insight platinum series are also good and compared to Honda mowers its cost is less. Some of the mowers also meet California stricter environmental regulations also. The less expensive Lawn-boy insight platinum series 10795 also has Honda engine that include in the higher end models in this series.

Some consumers recommend the Toro super recycler which carries a longer warranty of 5 years and includes a blade break. The cast aluminium duck is rustproof. None of the Toro lawn mowers are CARB compliant. In addition to that Toro makes a less expensive recycler series. The mowers in this series are relatively inexpensive, and carry a two years warranty.

Who hasn’t heard of Black & Decker? This is one of the industry leaders in the manufacturing of electric and power tools. It is also one of the most trusted names in lawn care products. Black and Decker has two types of garden mowers – cordless and electric in its range.

Black & Decker CMM1200 19-Inch 24-Volt Cordless Electric Mulching Lawn Mower

A cordless lawn mower uses battery for power, and the CMM 1200 model from Black and Decker comes with a 24V Sealed Lead Acid battery ideal for 1/3 acres of lawn areas. The battery is rechargeable to 60-70% in 4 hrs and to 100% in 10 hours. And its 19″ mower deck comes with a lifetime warranty. The CM1936 on the other hand has a 36V Lift-Out Sealed Lead Acid battery which means you can use more batteries when you have a bigger job. Its 19″ 3-in-1 mowing deck also has a lifetime warranty, and one of the most adored features is the instant starting with the pull of a handle. Cordless garden mowers are a good choice if you do not want to use gas, oil and tune ups, and trips to the service station.

If you don’t want to use batteries, Black and Decker has a variety of electric lawn mowers. One popular brand is the LM175 which has an in-built 6.5 AMP motor. Designed as a lightweight machine, the LM175 is easy to push and maneuver in the lawn. Its 18″ Polymer Deck has a lifetime warranty. This electric mower can go up to 100′ from an electric outlet. If you want something more powerful, there is the MM1800 which comes with 12 AMP motor. Also lightweight in design, this electric mower has a 18″ 3-in-1 deck design for mulching, bagging, and side discharge. Black & Decker guarantees an instant start every time.

Because electric lawn mowers run on electricity, they do not cause air pollution and produce half the noise of other types. They are ideal for the households with small lawn areas.
